Information Bulletin "Line of economic conduct of parents of pupils and parents of children attending kindergartens in 2013" 2015 № 6 (88)

This bulletin presents the results of the data analysis of surveys dedicated to the line of the economic conduct of parents whose children attend kindergartens and parents of pupils in 2013. The themes of the survey included issues of selecting an education institution, expenditure on basic and additional studies, accompanying costs, quality assessment of institutions and teachers, plans for further education of children. The distribution of parents’ responses by type of kindergartens and schools and by location of the institutions in Moscow and other cities are given.

The data analysis showed that the households of pupils differ substantially as regards the amount of the family capital effecting educational achievements and intentions of entering a higher education institution.

In the course of the survey data were obtained on the change of the positions of teachers which occurred in 2013 in the system of professional education in the following directions: labour strategies of teachers and secondary employment; academic activity (instruction and research); assessment of resources of an education institution; criteria of a good teacher; assessment of students’ activity; students’ involvement in the instruction and research activity; attitude to plagiarism; students’ knowledge control; resources of teachers of education institutions (time, personal income, information, family income); assessment of the effect of the unified state examination on increasing access to education; attitude to the new law on education.

The National Research University Higher School of Economics (NRU HSE) jointly with the Yuri Levada Analytical Center “Levada-Center”* continued in 2013 a series of sociological surveys of preschool education institutions’ heads in the framework of the monitoring of education markets and organizations conducted by the Higher School of Economics since 2002.
