This information bulletin presents the results of the surveys of the 9th and 11th grade pupils in Russia in 2013. The data analysis showed that the households of pupils differ substantially as regards the amount of the family capital effecting educational achievements and intentions of entering a higher education institution. Although the majority of senior pupils are going to enter a higher education institution (86% of 11th grade and 65% of 9th grade pupils), their decision depends on the level of their preparation at school and on the family capital. This paper was prepared in 2014 in the framework of implementing the projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Centre for Basic Research  under the National Research University - Higher School of Economics aimed at the development of the monitoring of education markets and organizations.
